What Is Phenolic Sheet in Grade L?

Grade L phenolic sheets feature multiple layers of linen fused together. These layers contain phenolic resins that undergo polymerization when exposed to heat and pressure. The result is a durable, lightweight material perfect for manufacturing many end-use goods.

Technical, mechanical, and physical properties* of linen-base phenolic include:

  • Tensile strength: 35,000 pounds per square inch (psi) [241 megapascals (MPa)]
  • Flexural strength – LW -A 0.125″: 23,000 psi (158 MPa)
  • Compressive strength: 14,000 psi (96 MPa)
  • Specific gravity: 1.35
  • Maximum temperature: 125° Celsius (257° Fahrenheit)
  • Bond strength: 1,700 psi (11 MPa)
  • Shear strength: 13,500 psi (93 MPa)
  • Izod impact strength at 49°C – LW: 1.7
  • Water absorption — 24 hours: 1.04
  • M-scale hardness: 105
  • Flammability rating: 94HB
